Too bad I didn't record Tim's snort laugh during the video.
Tatum is the best toy ever.
Here is the inspiration.
We really need to teach Soph to do this skit - since it's based on Sophia and all.
The real trick will be if we can teach one of the kids to do the dance.

Greatest Tot On Earth (yes, it's a trademark infringement, but I know people).
I took the day off of work Friday to spend it at the Circus with Taters Tot. We had the best time because I was able to get circus celebrity seats. We sat front row and entered floats that took us around the arena floor to become a part of the show and to see the acts up close. I was a little worried that Tatum would freeze up being that close but I had nothing to worry about. Tatum was even high-fiving the performers.
We were so close to the action and Tatum was mesmerized by it all.

Our seats for the show were so close too! I have never sat front row to the circus before - it was so much fun to see everything up close and personal.

The lady next to us was terrified being this close to the tigers. What a weirdo, Tatum and I loved it.

The only thing about being this close to the elephants....

is you are this much closer to the smell of their baby sized poops.

I could take the poop no problem, but I was a bit too close to this for my liking.

Bet they smell the poop too. (Sorry, couldn't resist)
Tatum was excited to get back home to play Blokus some more.

I think it might be possible to prove she is really my kid in a court of law. This game could occupy hours of my time and never even play the game. It's the same with Taters.
To top it off Daddy came over to pick up Tatum so I got to spend a few quality hours with my bro. We had a great time playing with the Tot and even taught her the best new trick EVER. As soon as Greg feels better he is putting that video up on the blog. Here's a quick teaser.....
TAAATTTUUUUMMMMM, was that you?
Sorry!
Until then - here's a slideshow of the fun at The Greatest Show On Earth.

Do The Bunny Hop
For the short time I was awake, I had a wonderful Easter with the family. I got there in time to see Tatum at an egg hunt at the neighbor's house.

I wanted to wait for Greg to get home to see all the goodies I got for everyone before handing them out, but I didn't show up totally empty handed. I couldn't resist bringing Tatum the silk Cheongsam dress I got for her. But the deal was, if she didn't let me get pictures to show Greg, she couldn't keep it. It's always a bribe with this one.
Who cares - it worked.

Here's a good picture of Michael with The Tot.

A good one of Christopher with Benny Boy.

And then Timmy with his favorite thing about Easter - deviled eggs.

We were stunned when Mike said this was the first time he has eaten a deviled egg - but then we realized he never had a chance before with Tim in the room. This year Shell got smart and made a batch for Tim and then some for the rest of us.
Mom got some chocolate bunnies for the grand kids. They were normal size bunnies for Mike and Chris - for the Tot - it was as big as her. Good luck with that Jenel. :)

It was good to see everyone after being away. Gerda and Gil were in from PA and Dad Fissell & Margaret joined in as well. It was good for the hour or so I was awake that is. It is so much harder to acclimate to the time zone coming home than going away. Going away there is a better incentive to explore and sight see. I guess I am just not that excited to go back to work. Go figure :)
Here's a slideshow of some photos before I crashed.
Happy Easter to All.

26 hour commute home
I am home!! Karen and I left the hotel in HK at 7:30am. The 15 hour flight was not so bad, but only managed an hour of sleep. The delay in Newark and the gate change that I nearly missed due to fatigue was frustrating. Dad Fissell and Margaret were right there to greet me at the airport and we made it home by 9pm.
The cats were very happy. I almost feel bad they were sitting in the filth of the clothes that were at the top of the stairs to wash. But they looked comfy, so I left them, plus, they lick parts I wouldn't touch, so I figured they were OK with the dirt. Chewie was more interested in my lap than the clothes.

Kittie looking more cross-eyed than ever.

I settled down to relax, have some tea (it may take some time to wean off the daily tea) and upload the hundreds of photos. Since I am Karen, computers and relaxing doesn't mesh well. Of course something had to go wrong and it did. One of the flash drives of Hundreds of photos is all showing up as blank. I must have really been tired because I didn't stress out. I will simply put all my faith in Greg's mad computer skillz that he can retrieve the photos. The second card uploaded and some are below, but the ones that are missing had all of Shanghai and most of Hong Kong. Karen Ransom did take lots of pictures too, but I had one in particular from my birthday at Yu Garden that was going up on the wall. Keep fingers and toes crossed.
So here are a few pics of the last two days. We went to Ocean Park - it is one of the largest theme parks in Asia. I personally think the driving over there is scarier than the park rides, but they were Freaking out over even the lame Gondola ride. Scary or not, the view beats anything at any of our parks. The ride to the left is the Dragon. We got there as the doors opened and most of the people went to the kiddie rides which left the Dragon for Karen and I all to ourselves. The ride to the right is the Crazy Galleon (gondola ride). Behind us is the Ocean Theater where the dolphin & seal show was held.

The show was so cute. They had 6 dolphins with the pinkest cutest bellies.

After that we went to see the Panda exhibit. They were beyond precious.
I made Karen reenact the poses of many statues and caricatures along the trip. Here she is doing her best imitation of the alligator mascot.

So she made me pose in front of the fish. I think Karen rocked the pose better.

I am super bummed about the potential loss of some pictures. But in the second flash drive I did get this work of art photo at the Ngong Ping Tea House where they demonstrate the art and history of Chinese tea ceremonies. I think even Greg would be impressed with this picture. Goes to show you, if you take enough pictures, a few will kick ass. This is a flower tea - which is more of a work of art than a drink. The leaves and flowers are hand strung together into a ball and when you add the hot water it opens up to reveal a beautiful display and a very yummy drink.

If you enlarge the picture you can see a reflection of Karen, Emily and me taking pictures. Who is Emily you ask? Karen and I were pretty impressed with ourselves managing our way through Shanghai on our own - including the train ride adventures 12 hours from Beijing to Shanghai and 20 hours from Shanghai to Hong Kong. Shanghai was the most difficult to maneuver and the least receptive to foreigners. Most of the time Karen and I were the only pale faces around, so imagine our surprise to look over and see a solo female white traveler. Emily is from London and her holiday makes ours look like a trip to the market. She was in Korea, we met up with her in China and she left on Friday to Ho Chi Mihn, Vietnam before she is off to Thailand and Cambodia. All on her own. And here I was proud to figure out a taxi to our hotel in Shanghai.
Emily joined us as we explored Victoria's Peak and the Tin Hau Temple on Wednesday and again on Thursday morning to Lantau to see the Tian Tan Buddha Statue. How amazing to make friends over 8 thousand miles away from home. Plus, I loved listening to her British accent and Karen and I have a new word to add to our vocabulary - Brillz - short for Brilliant.
Here's a slideshow of the photos I have available to share. Nothing has been commented on yet and as Greg mentioned before - there are Lots of pics so not all of them are great. I took a ton of pictures of the landscape and roads because I could never explain well enough. Hong Kong is like nothing else. The best way I have come up with is like New York and Vegas on steroids. Add to that the lush green hills and trees - just breathtaking. I loved every minute of it and would go back in a heartbeat.
I am happy to be resting in bed with my sweet kitties - and will be even happier when I get to cuddle with my man.
I am going to Mom's to celebrate Easter with the family. Gerda and Gil are in town and even Greg Sr. and Margaret will be joining us. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
Happy Easter everyone.

China Trip (Cont.)
Karen uploaded some pix to her gallery, so I'm throwing up a slideshow for everyone to check out. There's a ton of pix, so if you want to click thru, you can see the whole gallery and pick and choose, rather than watching the slideshow, because not all the pix are the best.
The pictures are of Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the famous Laoshe Teahouse for tea and a show.
(Update from Karen - Be sure to click on the link to the Laoshe Teahouse Greg provided for a video of the show. It was spectacular)
She then left for a 12 hour train ride to Shanghai!
I haven't heard from her in a couple days. Her birthday is Monday, so she's probably been celebrating on China time all day today.
Love you and miss you Bday girl...

Da Wall
Today was a big day - The Great Wall of China! It still was amazing, it still has to sink in.
Just a few quick pictures. We all piled into a van to drive 1 1/2 hours to the Mutianyu section of the wall. It's a little further away, but worth it. A lot less crowded, which was nice.
Here is Sammi and Alex on the lift up.

What goes up must come down - and what better way to come down than via a toboggan?! Everyone was pretty excited in anticipation.

Karen's nephew Dominic and niece Samantha showing us where we are on the map.

Group Show with some excellent scenery behind us.

One of my favorite shots. It's not overcast - it's actually the smog. I cannot do the pollution justice here - will save that for another post.

My girl Karen.

Looks like the wall couldn't keep out all the Mongolians

A good shot of the Best Hosts Ever - Gordon (Karen & Grace's Dad) and Lindy (best haggler Ever) are wonderful. It is so nice being here with family - which is exactly how I feel cause they treat me like one of their own. And Lindy! I could post an entire blog about Lindy. First off, its so helpful to have someone in the party who speaks Mandarin - but the woman's haggling skills are wicked - she can reduce the people to tears and walk away with dirt cheat prices. She is so good we are actually bummed when we spend 5 US dollars vs. 4.

Sammi is looking pretty sad in this photo because she got a bug bite that got a bit infected and we had to stop by the hospital to check it out.

Luckily with a bit of antibiotics she will be a-ok. It's a good thing it was just a bug bite and not a Spickett bite. What's a Spickett - it's the name Karen made up for this 'thing' - whatever it is - half spider, half cricket - all GROSS.

Here's the photos from today - I have not had time to add any captions to the slideshow, so check back later.

Mini Mii
Greg is not thrilled that I want a Mini Cooper - imagine how happy he will be after seeing this picture, 'cause now I want my own customized Hello Kitty Mini Cooper - Princess Edition!!

Since I am on the subject of cars in China - it is UNREAL how people drive over here. People just drive however they want - no attention to right of way, signals or god forbid pedestrians. It's total chaos - but in a weird way, it works. Since no one follows any rules, everyone is on the lookout so there are very few accidents.
Even still, watching people play chicken with a bus is a bit disconcerting. I hope the driver of the Hello Kitty Mini Cooper drives super safe. That car is too cute to bang up.

Ni hao
That is Hello in Mandarin. :)
In less than 12 hours I will be taking off for my trip to China.
And only 18 hours after that I will land in Beijing. Mom got a big kick outta the fact that I am flying out of Newark to get to Beijing.
Good Grief. Luckily I have a wonderful hubby who has uploaded many, many, many movies to the ipod for a diversion. Plus, I have to start reading about China before I land there. I have done a massive amount of time putting together a binder of all the things we can do, I just haven't had much time to read it.
I am not too concerned about Beijing since Karen's father lives there, I am just going to arrive and say 'where to?'. But Shanghai and Hong Kong Karen and I are on our own. but the 12 hour train to Shanghai and the TWENTY hour train to Hong Kong will provide plenty of time to check the books.
If you want to track where we are when - I created a Google Map of all the major locations where we will be staying, visiting and traveling.
Click here to check it out.
I will TRY to post some pictures during the trip - but I am not guaranteeing anything. Technology repels me and Greg won't be with me on the trip to 'make it work'.
If not I will just post TONS of photos upon my return.
Thanks for all the encouragement for the trip.
Best Family Ever.
Love,
K

The Big Show in The Big Apple
A week flies by when you are busy. The new Red 139th unit opened at Madison Square Garden so we throw a big 'ol party for VP's, press and their families.
The performers come down to entertain and sign autographs for the kids.

There was a mini Clown College so the kids can try the low wire, stilts, juggling, etc.

I had no business up on the low wire. I can barely walk on the solid ground.

I am not the only big kid in the room - Ruthie got 'levitated' by Zingmaster Alex Ramon. This was a photo station where Alex's photo is sideways and you stand up in front. When you rotate the picture - Zing, Zang, Zoom - you are floating!

And then the pièce de résistance - The BALLOON Pit! We had one of the areas completely filled with balloons of all sizes. The kids literally dove into the pit and had a blast. Some children I would have liked to tag for sterilization or at the very least finger print now as they will end up in the system at some point in their life. But aside from the few bad seeds, the kids just had blast. They ended up popping a bunch of the balloons roughhousing but don't worry, there were plenty of balloons left for me to play in once the show started.

I had to steal a picture with Taba the Tiger Trainer as he is one of my favs - AZUCAR!! I am so impressed by him - especially this morning when Benny woke me up at 6am to fed him. In my house the cats have trained the adults.

I work with a wonderful balloon artist who did a life size balloon representation of Alex. Amazing.

And here is Alex in the flesh. Alex used to be our stage show Mickey's Magic Show and now he is riding elephants, performing amazing illusions and leading The Greatest Show On Earth - and all at 23! This picture is me, Alex and Jen Frost - aka Rockstar.

I know I can be more of a fan than employee at times - but Alex is wonderful in the show and so down to earth - I just adore him. He is no circus diva.

I try my best to remain professional as I was working - but I can only contain myself so much when I have access to a balloon pit and a balloon version of the Zingmaster. I do work at the circus for cryin' out loud. :)

One of my favorite things about working at Feld Entertainment is the people - in the show, behind the scenes and in the offices. One of the cherries on top is Christy. I got to spend a morning with Christy - Gregory was jealous. Here we are in the NY Office in the Empire State Building.

Here's a slideshow of the festivities.
I am happy to be home, I missed Greg and my kitties Lots - I have to soak in as much of it as I can before I am off to China with Ransom. I will try to post pictures while running around - Greg bought an extra memory card so be prepared to be overwhelmed (or bored) by tons of pictures.
